So!
There was a slight hiccup in my plan for doing a final post about NaNoWriMo, mostly because I got a surprise/super-tight deadline and had to drop everything to work on it. On the plus side, I freaking love this little TOG-related project (mum’s the word for now, but I can’t wait to tell you guys!), AND I managed to "win" NaNo anyway (at almost 60k words...and I'm not even halfway through this freaking book. Oy.)! So…hooray!
I was planning to do a giant reflective post about what I learned during NaNoWriMo, but I wound up doing something like that over on Pub(lishing) Crawl earlier this week with Sooz. SO I just wanted to quickly say THANK YOU to everyone who participated in NaNoWriMo with me! I had SUCH a blast, and can’t wait for NaNo next year!
Speaking of my BFFer/soul-twin/Person, if you won NaNo and have NO idea what to do next with your manuscript, READ THIS POST. Sooz wrote an AMAZING post on Pub Crawl today about revisions—and she also offers entire worksheets and lessons available FOR FREE as printable pdfs (the link is at the bottom of the Pub Crawl post).
Also, because my friends are freaking awesome (and I’m allowed to brag about them, okay!?), if you are looking for a critique partner, check out this post at Pub Crawl! Erin Bowman basically turned the comments into a CP classified section. So check it out!
AND, other than that… I am still working on Book 3, still working on this secret/surprise project, and just doing a LOT of great reading. Recent reads that I LOVED: ANGEL-SEEKER by Sharon Shinn (GO BUY ALL OF HER BOOKS. ARCHANGEL is the first in her Samaria series. Agh, I am the BIGGEST Sharon Shinn fan-girl. TROUBLED WATERS is another amaaazing book by her.); THE HUNDRED THOUSAND KINGDOMS by N. K. Jemisin; LORD’S FALL by Thea Harrison; A DISCOVERY OF WITCHES by Deborah Harkness; and DAYS OF BLOOD AND STARLIGHT by Laini Taylor.
I’m currently reading MYSTIC AND RIDER by Sharon Shinn, and savoring every single page. I read all of two chapters before ordering the rest of the books in The Twelve Houses series and…agdhisghaighasg. *dies* Books like these are the reason why I got into reading/writing/loving fantasy in the first place. (Seriously, go buy ARCHANGEL. Even if you think you hate "angel books," this is NOT an "angel book." And, for that matter (PSA time!), I happen to LOVE "angel books," so let’s stop using the quotation marks and looking down our noses at them, okay?)
Annnnd, I should get back to work. BUT before I do, here are two videos that you should MAKE TIME to watch. Especially if you are a writer. (But, really, if you’re in any creative field, or have creative people in your life, they’re worth your time.) Both made me cry like a baby (happy tears, though). Seriously—go watch them.
(You can learn more about Jarrett here.)
…And watch this, just because it made me cry happy tears…and then listen to it on repeat for hours. :)
Hope you all have a great weekend!

Course, I have no idea WHEN I will be able to actually work on my story because it's Christmas time and in retail that barely gives you a moment to breathe. PLUS come December 17th I will be starting a new job! I'm going to be a teacher (at last) and the kidletts that I will be working with, will more than likely run me ragged, but in the best possible way. ^_^
So, happy writing on whatever project you find yourself working on and congrats again on finishing NaNo. ^_^ Oh, and thanks for posting all those links. They are amazing. ^_^
And CONGRATS on finishing NaNo (omg, this comment is SO belated!!).
Annnd since it's now December 17th, I just wanted to say congrats on the new job! I hope today was awesome and that your students were well-behaved!!
Happy holidays!!
Unfortunately, I'm unable to continue on with my novel since NaNo finished. :( But the reason for this has given me an idea that you and the ladies at Pub Crawl might want to post about. Writing health. At the beginning of December I went to a chiropractor because my mom and I got a free consultation. The doctor took x-rays and all that good stuff, and it turns out that my neck alignment is all wrong. The neck is supposed to have a curve in it, but mine is straight from my posture being so bad (i.e. looking down at a computer screen for hours at a time every day). I had to get my neck immediately readjusted, and I should be going to therapy for it three times a week but can't because of the ugly ole money issue. But the point is that I am currently in a great amount of pain now and can't really do anything about it except hold my head high, literally. Like my neck is worse than my 53 yr old mother's is. Very bad sign. And the alignment of the spine is so incredibly important to every part of the body. The doctor said my mother's thyroid problem was due to her bad neck alignment pinching off nerve access. It's a huge deal that people really aren't aware of and writers are susceptible to because of the way we work! Anyway, that's just an idea for y'all.
btw, speaking of awesome books that must be read, you NEED to finish those two books that you are "currently reading" on goodreads. THEY ARE AMAZING and I don't know another McKillip fan to fangirl with! Just ahhhh
Good luck with all of your writing projects! By God I'll be joining you in that endeavor come January!
That is a REALLY great post idea! I'm totally going to mention it to the Pub Crawl girls when we start up again in January! And jeez--I hope you're doing okay! I'm so sorry to hear about your neck/spine. :( :( *hugs*
Two: Thank you for the confidence boost. Seriously. Those two videos just made my day. Jarrett's story definitely made me cry and the idea of a genius? Genius. I'm pretty sure I have talked to the air before, like there's something else there and it's his fault for this scene not working or that character not behaving. I've had moments in writing where something else takes over for a little while, even just a word or a sentence, and it changes everything. It makes me feel a hell of a lot more sane to know that I'm not the only one who's experienced that. And I won't lie, I'm pretty sure I can see you doing the same.
I'm so glad I did NaNo this year. I was unemployed all month so I got to write. All month. I also got to write at a much slower pace than I usually do during a rushed NaNo November packed with work or school and juggling an attempt at a social life. But being home every day and sitting down and writing, I put more effort into my book. I got more out of it. And I finished the first book and dove into the second and this year, because I had time, book two didn't throw me into a dead stop. It didn't fall off a cliff and crash at the bottom. It took off. I'm still working on it. I want to keep going. And that gives me more hope than I had at the end of NaNo last year.
I'm glad I did it. And you helped convince me to do NaNo. So thank you for pushing me and encouraging me. I don't know if you realize how much you inspire me to keep going. To keep believing I can do this. So thanks for taking the time to acknowledge my dream and convince me that I'm capable of reaching my dream.
